I started working online since i was 18 years old, i saw changes (big changes) day by day on how people think, react and use the internet to bring more clients, and potential buyers to their businesses.

I always had the same question; will the day come to see bigger projects, better opportunities, and higher budgets on freelancing sites?

It turned out that most of online buyers are still the same since the day online freelancing started.

Buyers who are interested to outsource their projects on freelancing websites are 4 kinds and only 4 kinds of buyers:

A buyer who is looking for a specific expertise with the cheapest price

A buyer who have big dreams with small budget “cheap price”

A buyer who is looking for the best results and doesn’t care about the price as long as he gets what he wants

A buyer who doesn’t have any clue about what he is looking for or the budget he is willing to spend for it, and just added the project because it’s free.

Did you notice the word “cheap” is appearing in 2 points, now don’t get disappointed, and keep reading.

In the first two cases you should be AWARE because the buyers online are looking for the cheapest prices they can get for the BEST quality in the world.

you can see a buyer online looking for a FACEBOOK clone for a budget of 120$ MAXIMUM, now DO NOT PANIC, that’s more than normal on freelancing websites and you will see so many of these buyers, so eventually you will get used to them, and i actually started to love them!

Now the real problem is when you see more than 20 freelancers COMPETING so hard to win the contract!!!
Working with this kind of buyers is a pain on the ass and it will never end, they will never provide any documentation, they will never provide real information, they will never provide any help and they expect to deliver the project in 20 days, and have all features that Facebook have “Client side and backend”

Now days, you can do a full business plan for 300$ only! you can design a logo for 35$, you can launch your own Youtube clone for 200$.

All this made me think, what will happen after 5 years from now, will i be able to launch my own google.com for 99$???

as for the forth type, you don’t want to get involved with this kind of buyers anyway, TRUST ME you wont satisfy him and whatever you do or say it will be just NORMAL for him.

Now that’s the dark side of online freelancing, what about the bright side? Is there any?

Well, YES, there is nothing with only BAD side except hell!
Online freelancing is GREAT for PART TIME Jobs.

So wake up, and think deeply and clearly before you quite your daily Job and start biding on projects all day long.

MOST buyers online are not companies, they are ambitious individuals who is looking to build a small business with NO budget, and they are looking for someone like you to build this business for them.

So you should have very clear expectations when you work on online freelancing websites.

While you are reading this you must be saying: not all buyers are cheap, and not all providers are good and I will work only with good/high budgets and there are people that appreciate talents.

Well you are RIGHT, there are always exceptions and you will always find good projects and buyers every now and then, and that’s why you should keep your online freelancing work as a part time only, since you wont find this kind of buyers every week or every month.

As an expert, you need a stable monthly income to pay your bills, and online freelancing is defiantly not the solution you are looking for, if a buyer has a good budget they will choose to work with companies and they will never go beyond the original requirements.

Now there is one website that I think that it will have a very good future for freelancers since it works based on hourly work, which means that you will get paid HOURLY which will provide a decent monthly income that will pay your bills, this website is Odesk.com

Odesk.com is a total new idea that works on hourly basis which Is fair in most cases for both providers and buyers and in most cases the results are much more better and the buyers there have a better mentality.

Writing about odes.com is just my personal opinion and it doesn’t mean that all other websites are not good, NOT AT ALL, all freelancing websites are GREAT and provides very good opportunities for both providers and buyers, and the only reason that I prefer odesk.com that I find it fair to providers.

Now and after you know about freelancing, you can check the best freelancing out there.

Elance.com

Guru.com

Freelancer.com

Getacoder.com

Rentacoder.com

Odesk.com

Check these websites, register, search for projects, understand the mentality and prepare yourself for your first online freelancing experience
